For many years, Cristina and La Bonita have worked as cooks on merchant ships sailing the Peruvian Amazon. Today, they seem to be naturally embedded in the local landscape and social fabric, but being transgender still poses a challenge to local customs, convictions and beliefs. Each protagonist tries to reconcile their identity with functioning in a community – be it a family or a religious community – in their own way.
